Viktoriya

Female nude Bronze on charred oak plinth

Meaning Victory in Latin, the contemporary performance artist Viktoria Modesta inspired this Russian/Bulgarian/Ukrainian spelling.

Due to a doctor's negligence at birth, she lost the use of her lower left leg which she had amputated in 2007 to improve her mobility and health.
Modesta creatively uses her disability to advantage in her career as a performance artist and singer, symbolizing a physicality that challenges our perception of beauty and ability.

ā€œThere is no ā€˜Disā€™ in my ability .

Hard things are put in our way, not to stop us, but to discover our courage and strengthā€.
