Saint Francis

The sculpture is dedicated to one of the most revered Christian saints, the patron saint of ecology and protector of animals — Francis of Assisi.

The composition reflects profound ascetic wisdom, spiritual purity, and the idea of all-encompassing love for all living things. The light, natural texture of the chamotte highlights the simplicity and monumentality of the form, focusing attention on the saint's prayerful state and inner light, who dedicated his life to serving the poor and restoring peace.
This artwork holds special historical significance within the master's career: in 2016, during a personal audience, Alexey Leonov presented this sculpture as a gift to His Holiness Pope Francis. The event underscored the international recognition of the Ukrainian sculptor's philosophical and humanistic message, while the image of Saint Francis itself became a symbol of cultural and spiritual dialogue between nations, rooted in eternal, universal human values.
