“Konsum” is an interactive object with its own situational soundtrack. It reacts to the distance to people, their speed of approach and their approximate number. Heart rate, breathing, core color, but also the advertising intensity of the displays adapt to the environment.
The object, stuffed full of plastic, is held together by cable ties, old screws, adhesive tape and perforated tape. A makeshift and patchwork, like our societies and systems.
Since October 2022, I have been dealing with the flip side of our prosperity, the collective shadow of people. As a result of this intense confrontation, at some point I saw the earth as nothing more than an eroded, colorless lump, from which bones emerge, some of which are already exposed and whose heart, laced in plastic, can barely work. But it is not the earth that I see, but the human being.
However, most people lack the desire, the time or the knowledge to recognize this condition. The consumer machinery is running at full speed, is omnipresent and continues to diligently promote the unrestricted satisfaction of our desires, driving the plundering of our planet faster than ever before.
