Carola Wedell

Life and Work

“Thinking is already sculpture.” — Joseph Beuys

Carola Wedell experienced this statement intensely through her engagement with themes such as duality, unity, the lemniscate, dance, symphonia, and angels. With devotion, she endowed these forms with shape, time, and vital life force. The result is bronze power forms.

The fully articulated forms convey a wealth of sensory impressions: harmonious proportions and taut surfaces, vitality and, indeed, strength. The consistent integration of intermediate spaces and openings into the overall composition enhances the expressive power of the intricately shaped three-dimensional works. They invite the viewer to dream their way into the flow of lines, with the dynamic interplay of concave and convex surfaces whose volumes call to be touched and comprehended. The bronze-cast forms achieve their full expressive force through their matte shimmer and the play of light and shadow across the surface.

“Looking back, I marvel at what has been created and understand myself as part of the indivisible, eternal living whole.”

Carola Wedell was repeatedly inspired anew by the formative power of nature.

“Art must penetrate the spirit of nature and, like nature, create beings whose forms are autonomous.”
— Constantin Brancusi

Carola Wedell on her work:

“Harmonious bronze power forms came into being —
a special delight for all the senses.

Three-dimensional structures inspire and invigorate the viewer’s fifth dimension.”
