Sara Vrugt

Sara Vrugt (1981, Amsterdam) is an interdisciplinary artist with a background in textiles design and community art. Her practice is characterized by the innovative use of needle and thread, infused with humor and an idealistic vision.

Having studied textiles design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Vrugt's installations transcend traditional boundaries of discipline, engaging viewers through both scale and form, while inviting them to interact physically with her creations. Central to her practice is a deep social commitment, where themes such as cathedral thinking, responsible ancestry and mindfulness are explored as counterpoints to the pressures of contemporary society.

By creating temporary biotopes, Vrugt offers spaces for reflection and engagement, urging a slower, more thoughtful interaction with the world. Her projects embody the principles of craftivism, advocating for change through art— not through confrontation, but by encouraging a closer, more considerate examination of our surroundings and a call to action.
