Giselle Weegels
Giselle Weegels followed her education at the Academy for Visual Education in Tilburg from 1969 to 1974 (the Netherlands). After her studies she took classes at the Accademia di Belli Arti in Florence (Italy) 1974/75.
She also worked as a painting teacher and later as a stone-working teacher with the blind and visually impaired. After the death of her husband in 2011, she devoted herself entirely to sculpture, mainly small sculptures in bronze and stone.
Driven by wonderment and consideration there are 2 important themes. At first the Cycle of Life in which i often use the bird as a metaphor. Birth , growing up , happiness , hurt and pain and all emotions we experience as human beings are imagined and poured into form , a sculpture. The next theme are the experiences in nature . As well the theme Current, imagined in space and movement, build by the 4 Elements: Fire ( Light ) ,Water and Earth ( modelled in bronze and stone). My work is not only about the recognizable but about the spirit settling down in matter. Such as it shows a unique vision on the world and people.
