Profession: Freelance architect since the mid 1980s. I also write short stories and make music.
Why am I volunteering?
Architecture and three-dimensional art are closely connected for me. Architecture, as the "mother of all arts" (Vitruvius), is defined in our society today as a "serving" discipline, it has to function and be economical – in contrast to the individually creative activity of an artist. These different definitions don't let go of me and I am looking for connections, for superior common goals and ideas, besides the so-called "aesthetics", which is considered individually in both "disciplines". In doing so, I do not see the classical "sculptural sculpture" as an individual work in the "three-dimensionality", but also other artistic and creative forms of expression such as "media art", performance, dance, literature, music in the context of philosophy and science as well. This search for intellectual connections / networks – also in a social sense – has brought me to sculpture network.
I would like to realize this:
I have co-organized several sculpture network events so far, with Isabelle Henn for start `17 and start `18, organized guided tours in Munich, then, at the end of 2018, together with Eva Wolf as curator and Willy Hafner as journalist, I co-organized and supervised the Sculpture Network Lab (4 events in Amsterdam, Munich and Zurich). They were wonderful experiences and I would like to continue in this spirit: Bringing together different disciplines and people through art, thinking about social issues and finding common ground, that would be my goal.
sculpture network is a wonderful forum that can think and act internationally. At the same time, I see my activities and capacities as being more focused on Munich, my home town and also the administrative headquarters of sculpture network, – also with regard to my voluntary work and thus temporary opportunities. Especially in times of great fragility, irritation and uncertainty worldwide, rethinking, joint thinking and acting is required, on a large and small scale.
"Everything has to do with everything" – synergies – and perhaps art in particular, together with superordinate, interdisciplinary thinking, reinterpreted in three dimensions, can provide new impulses. I think about how I can contribute to this on a small scale and on site.

My last exhibition visits were in January / February 2020: ERES Foundation: Zero Gravity – 50 Years of Moon Landing (art and science, interdisciplinary and socially oriented, with lectures on the topic, including the lecture Prix Coop Himmelblau) | Lenbachhaus, Kunstbau: Lebensmenschen. Alexei von Jawlensky and Marianne von Werefkin
Digital exhibitions may take some time getting used to. I prefer visiting exhibitions "live" on location.
The first thing I do when I can do anything again:
a) Inviting friends to dinner, exchanging thoughts in a familiar environment. The direct contact and conversation with people is important to me, also as an impulse and for the further development of new and own ideas.
b) Going to the cinema, theatre, exhibitions, concerts and music pubs, experiencing culture, human thoughts and creativity at first hand again. And playing tennis again!

Tea: inspiring, healing, calming.

Why am I volunteering?
Art has always had a special place in my heart. Creativity has been not just a hobby for me but also medicine and it is now even the core of the profession I am pursuing. I am really lucky to have art made so accessible to me throughout my life, so I hope to help others to make connections to art through the Sculpture Network articles by working on the English translations.

I'm passionate about sculpture, my first and truest love when it comes to media. It's important to keep our network of sculptors and enthusiasts connected across continents, politics, social practices and generations. I'm proud to be working with sculpture network from California to do just that!

The first thing I do when I can do anything again:
Go on a hike. There's a trail in Malibu with a beautiful waterfall I've been dying to visit! Also, hug my mom.
