2024 International Young Talents Prize of Ceramics - Theme: "Contrasts"

IZNANG YOUNG TALENTS CERAMICS PRIZE

for the second time at the 24nd Iznang Ceramics Market on July 20th and 21th, 2024

Since 2022 an international young talents prize for ceramics will be
awarded, combined with appreciation for all those who dare to take the step into self-employment as full-time ceramists.

The selected pieces will be shown in an exhibition parallel to the Iznang Ceramics Market.

Theme: “contrasts”

Prize:

A cash prize of €3,000 will be awarded.
The prize is being donated by the kiln manufacturer Helmut Rohde GmbH.
A top-class expert jury will determine the award-winning piece. The prize also includes the offer of free participation at the Iznang Ceramics Market in the following year..
For particularly strong submissions, the jury may nominate up to 3 other workshops, which will be invited to participate in the following year market free of charge.

The challenge:

The Iznang Young Talent Award recognises ceramics of high-quality craftsmanship and artistic significance.

Concepts, technical execution, sophisticated design and an approach, that is open to experimentation and innovative design are sought.

The shape, technique, decoration and surface are entirely up to the artist.

Participants:

Freshly trained ceramists, ceramic designers, artists’ studios, professional career changers, university graduates, apprentices in craft businesses and students at universities in the field of ceramics are invited. The training or career start should not be more than six years ago, the participants not older than 38 years.

Submitted pieces:

Each participant competes with a piece that they designed and created themselves. A multi-part piece can also be submitted in exceptional cases, but no series. Collaborative works by artist communities are permitted but must be marked as such.

Objective:

The award wants to encourage newcomers to make their contemporary ceramic statement and thus integrate themselves into the ceramics scene, obtain a place at markets, trade fairs and exhibitions, and gain publicity, starting with participation in the Iznang Ceramics Market.

Two-part application process and submissions:

In the first round, the participant sends

1. motivation script

2. Artistic CV

3. Artistic idea/ conception

4. Two colour photos of their piece in high quality and resolution (300 dpi) showing two different views of the object

- The application deadline is February 27th, 2024.

The application documents are to be sent by post or digitally to the organisation:

- The photos will be judged on March 9th, 2024. The jury’s decision is final. Legal action is excluded.

- Selected participants will be informed at the 9th of March and invited to the exhibition and award ceremony on July 20th, 2024.

Applications that are incomplete or not received by the deadline cannot be considered.

Jury procedure:

The first round of the jury is based on the inspection of the digitally submitted material.
The second round proceeds as follows:
1. The 25 invited ceramists submit their works; this can be done by post or in person to the address provided.
2. The jury selects a prize-winning piece at this location and nominates other prizes for participation in the 2024 Iznang Ceramics Market.
3. The winners will be honoured and receive their prize money at the awards ceremony.

Delivery

- Postal delivery of the ceramic objects June15th to June 30th, 2024, to: H. Morlock, Dörnenweg 16, 78345 Moos, Germany
The exhibits must be sent securely and postage paid, also the return.

Exhibition and award ceremony

- The organisational team will set up the exhibition; pedestals are available.
- All exhibits should be priced and for sale.
- The jury will meet on Saturday, July 20th, 2024.
- The award ceremony will take place in a festive setting on July 20th, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mooswald market area.

The personal attendance of the selected YOUNG TALENTS is desired. The participant bears all costs incurred for participation in the competition.

Advertising

- As the creator, the award winner remains the owner of the chosen piece until it is sold. Photos of the award-winning piece and the other pieces participating in the exhibition may be used by Iznang Pottery Market for advertising and any promotional activity.
All photos submitted to the competition become the property of the organiser. They will not be returned. By participating in the competition, the participant agrees to the publication of the photos and contact details for the advertising purposes of the Iznang Pottery Market.

Insurance

The exhibits are insured by the organiser from the time of delivery throughout the exhibition until dispatch. Pieces delivered personally are insured during the exhibition.

No liability is accepted for shipping damage.

Cancellation of the event

If the event has to be cancelled due to force majeure or for reasons not caused by the organiser, all those involved will bear the costs they have incurred themselves. Liability for damage and failures will not be accepted.

Place of jurisdiction

Any legal transactions between the participant and the organiser are based on the law of the Federal Republic of Germany. Place of performance, place of jurisdiction.
