The Cage

In 2022, Fahar Al-Salih created The Cage, a monumental installation of over 500 handcrafted birdcages. The space functions simultaneously as a cage and a temple, raising questions about freedom, memory, and belonging.

In cooperation with the Händelfestspiele of the Badisches Staatstheater, The Cage will open its doors for the first time on March 7 at 11 a.m. Visitors are invited to open a cage door – a poetic gesture of remembrance and release. During the International Weeks Against Racism in Karlsruhe, which will be officially opened at the Stadtkirche on March 15, 2026, at 6 p.m., The Cage will serve as a space for dialogue, encounter, and empathy.
