Shoji ( Traditional Japanese room divider)

Shoji, which means (traditional Japanese room divider) in English, is inspired by an artist in residence period (2015-2017) in Japan. Working together with the artist Senri Nojima in Shimabara (Kyushu island) I experienced the Japanese society with it's rigid social structure but at the same time it's flued movements which I could observe in in the old Japanese houses with the 'Shoji' room dividers, but also in the beauty of the Japanese art with it's fluidity and the movement of Japanese people in the cities.
'Shoji' is made of pink alabaster, squire books glued together make a rigid form structure. As relief forms are sculpted out of the blocksflow, light comes through the permeable stone and forms are shown in a beautiful soft light.
