An open call for an artistic journey of discovery between Germany and Mongolia
Open Call: ART CAMP Bavaria ART CAMP Mongolia
The post-nomadic experience – culture, nature, and sustainability
The ZEIGENeV association invites artists from Germany and Mongolia to embark on a transformative journey between Germany and Mongolia in the summer of 2024. This art project offers the opportunity to discover the respective cultural backgrounds and to engage in intensive exchange with artists from the respective countries.
The artist residencies will take place in two locations - in Franconia and in Bulgan Province, Mongolia.
MÜRSBACH, Bavaria
From June 17 to July 7, 2024, artists from Mongolia and Germany will have the opportunity to travel to Franconia. The residency will take place on the grounds around an old watermill in the Itz valley, in the rural region of Bamberg. Today, the mill generates sustainable energy and contributes to flood protection. This contrasts with the proximity to nature in a cultural landscape shaped by small-scale farming traditions and the Mongolian steppe. Participants
are invited to discuss the different ideas of nature from the respective cultural backgrounds and to reflect on the need for a sustainable approach to nature.
In parallel, an exhibition project will take place from June 21 to October 6, 2024, in the gallery rooms of the Mill in Mürsbach, which, with the support of the Zanabazar Museum, Ulaanbaatar, will show the post-nomadic realities, modernization and traditional cultural contents of nomadic cultures as well as nomadic life and experiences in literature, art, and crafts in the mirror of contemporary art in both countries. The results of the Art Camp will be integrated into this exhibition. THEgallery (www.thegallery.art) is making the rooms available for this purpose.

From July 26 to August 15, 2024, artists have the opportunity to participate in an Art Camp in Mongolia.
During the first three days in Ulaanbaatar, we will visit the Zanabazar Museum and the Chinggis Khaan National Museum (https://chinggismuseum.com/en) and meet with curators and artists to learn more about Mongolia's cultural background, which is characterized by Tengrism, Buddhism, Khanate cultures and shaman traditions that are still alive in a post- nomadic republic and are empowering women in attaining stronger gender roles.
The Art Camp will be set up near a nomadic ger village located near Bayannur in Bulgan Province, halfway between Ulaanbaatar and Kharakhorum. https://maps.app.goo.gl/4EK2GfvhtFBsAdxQ6
The stay will take place in gers (Mongolian traditional yurts), far away from electricity and water connections. From there, historical sites and sacred mountains will be visited, as well as the old capital Kharakhorum. During this time, the participants share the nomadic-style yurts. No electricity, no running water, sleeping and eating together in the gers (with an occasional break in the next settlement for refreshments).
From August 14 to 28, an exhibition will be held at the Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum http://en.zanabazarmuseum.mn/ in Ulaanbaatar featuring the works created at the Art Camp.
