Mariemont Call for Land Art and Recycled Art

The Domaine & Royal Museum of Mariemont, rich in European history and world-renowned collections, is launching a CALL FOR PROJECTS from LANDART ET RECYCL'ART for the creation of an outdoor tour of ephemeral works in the domain.

Mariemont wishes to enrich its cultural offering as an exceptional place dedicated to artistic expression. This is therefore an invitation to creation within and inspired by the Mariemont estate, addressed to landart and recycl'art artists, from Belgium and Europe.

Visitors will have the opportunity to stroll through a tour of ephemeral works of art, while appreciating the creations created by emblematic artists of the Belle Époque such as Rodin and Lambeau. Through this project, Mariemont intensifies its dialogue between art, nature and culture, while affirming its support and valorization of contemporary creation, a mission that it strives to promote within each of its exhibitions. temporary.

From spring 2024 and for a period of four months, the area will be animated in a fun, poetic and artistic way, for the greatest benefit of its visitors and tourists.

ELIGIBILITY

The project can be presented by an artist or a collective of artists, an association, a design or architecture company, a workshop. Having a status allowing the payment of invoices. The project also encourages a partnership with one or more technical schools or an activity providing for the participation of the largest and most diverse audiences. Residents in Belgium or Europe.

CALENDAR

March-April 2024: Design, production

May 9-17, 2024: Editing with all the creators

May 18, 2024: Public opening, during the day with commented tour

THEMES

1. Poetic dialogue with specific emblematic dendrological elements of the Mariemont estate, in particular the large cedar of Lebanon;

2. Artistic interpretations of the 500 years of European history of the Mariemont estate, notably Mary of Hungary (16th century), sister of Emperor Charles V and the origin of Mariemont, the ruins of the castle of Charles de Loraine (18th century). ), the Winter Garden and Roman Bath (19th), the Mausoleum of Raoul Warocqué (early 20th), The museum building of architect Roger Bastin (late 20th)

3. Original creations or designs which serve as a reflection on improving well-being in the Mariemont area (furniture, installation, games, etc.);

4. General thoughts on the role of nature and ecology in our world threatened by global warming.

TYPES OF WORKS AND ASSEMBLY

Land art and Recycl'art, for outdoor presentation in an estate/park. New or existing creations. Materials and assemblies allowing a minimum life expectancy of 4 months.

Materials accepted:

  • has. Plants: wood, grass, foliage, fruits etc. of the domain
  • b. Minerals: sand, stone, water, gravel, earth, metal;
  • vs. Animals: shells, feathers, leather, wool, cotton
  • d. Industrial or recycled waste: rubber, metal, plastic, fabric

The physical materials will either come from the estate (branches, foliage, etc.) or elsewhere, or purchased or found locally.

The creators must be technically capable of creating and mounting the work themselves and in accordance with the description of the proposed concept. If assistance is necessary, clearly specify it in the application form. Creators are advised to have the necessary tools and to work with their own tools.

FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

Artistic fee: € 1,500 for independent artists, paid after the opening. Production budget: € 0 to € 3,000, to be justified. The artist will be responsible for ordering his or her own supplies. Travel: Train, car or air travel reimbursed, at the rate of €0.4281/KM, up to a maximum of €300. (It is strongly recommended to have a car to get to Mariemont, which is not well served by public transport, and above all to be able to transport materials and equipment independently).
