Mariël Bisschops
The basic idea behind my work is connectedness and humanity with the environment, myself and the other, nature and space. In this thought I search for the simplicity and complexity of nature and life, vulnerability and strength. As a fungus, it shows life and transience. Although my work is composed and finished with great care, the primal material remains visible. I want to show, feel and smell the 'raw' of the material.
Perishable and beauty come together in the work of Mariël Bisschops; in her work old and rusty materials gets a new destination. She is a nature-lover and very philosophical. Everyday she sees beauty in everything; she finds inspiration in the surrounding nature. Colored autumn leaves to banana peels, willow to shells and homemade felt to rusty nails.
The proces of decay, advancing time lapse late materials will be delayed Mariël pick them up and allowed to form part of her creations. At that time she shows everyone what beauty is: the vulnerability of natural material in a new order. That drives her, there she finds her challange. The idea to use old materials as the basis for a new creation, as contrasts loud ans soft, old and new, and weathering is searched by forces of nature, for her not new.
She makes indoor and outdoor artworks that change by nature over time. The work is an experience for the visitor.
