In keeping with the theme of the International Forum "Sculpture and Climate Emergency", our author Sietske Roorda visited Monira Al Qadiri’s exhibition in Berlin, and explores Qadiri's approach on the “petro-culture” of Kuwait, the artist's home country. Enjoy reading!

Looking forward to Sculpture Network’s XV. International Forum
The International Forum has been a cornerstone of the Sculpture Network experience since its foundation in 2004: a weekend-long opportunity for exchange, discussions, inspiration – and last but not least a celebration of the shared love for three-dimensional art.
Pearly Oil: Monira Al Qadiri’s Art on “Petro-Culture”
There is a certain irony to small dinosaur toys as the plastic material they are made of are partly the remnants of the ancient creatures they represent. Kuwaiti artist Monira Al Qadiri, based in Berlin, takes this irony a step further with her installation "Seismic Songs" (2022) that was on exhibit with her other works at König Galerie in Berlin.
