Varozza – ten years celebration of the WAF

Being a special year in which we celebrate ten years WAF, having it’s base in the Krikhaar Foundation we thought it was suitable to invite Varozza/Peter Deckers to make his first solo exhibition here.

Peter is one of the rare painters who has a total own voice and a way of thinking and working, that is incomparable and unique. Most of his paintings have something that is slightly related to reality, but what he really wants is to let you look and make your own adventure with what you see. He doesn’t want you to look in a certain predicted way, but hopes you enter into dialogue with what you see.

And being Peter, who actually started as a conceptual artist in the seventies doing performances but also made many monumental sculptures, this became an all inclusive exhibition, not only because it totally involves the house and its architecture, also because it touches on the many sides of his work.

It crossed his mind that artists are a sort of detective, not seeking, but inventing the clues – hence the title ‘1*10 – indice, meaning clue’ to lay out a pattern that forms a reality, not of the downside of life, murder, but in the stimulating uplifting sense, that actually every good artwork should be doing. So he laid out this game to play by his own rules, complete with puzzels and magnifying glasses

And indeed, for understanding art you somehow need the mentality of a detective and surely its’ curiosity to make sense of it all.

It’s a way to open your mind, but all that wouldn’t happen if beauty wasn’t there to transport you. So all I like to say, be playful and enjoy. Let yourself be taken onto that journey.

*You can visit from September 7th 2024 until September 29th – by appointment only.
