GEGENSPRECHANLAGE, the English translation INTERCOM means direct interaction with a calling person. Further, it can be an address system for important public announcements and warnings and is also used as a means of fast communication, e.g. on board of a ship or between spatially distant cooperators within an institution. All these interpretations and uses are part of our common project as described by the curator Daniela Fromberg:

“For the first time, the exhibition Gegensprechanlage is presenting artists from the association VdBK1867 with formats of sound art and with works that were created in close connection with auditory phenomena or music. It sheds light on variants of the interplay of music and visual arts in the works of female artists of different generations and backgrounds. This interdisciplinary potential, which extends beyond the genre boundaries of performance, spoken poetry and sound installation to intermedial projects and visual notations, is presented on the occasion of the Month of Contemporary Music, in order to invite people to the association's domicile, which they only moved into last December. Gisela Weimann, Murshida Arzu ALPANA, Ann Noël, Daniela Fromberg, Zuzanna Skiba, Ingartan and Harriet Groß not only enter into a concrete dialogue in the exhibition rooms, but have also previously sought synergies in their works and are cooperating with other artists like Steffi Weismann, Karmella Tsepkolenko, Pierre-Frédéric Bouvet and the Ensemble Maulwerker. The intercom as an image or metaphor not only plays with the multi-layered, interdisciplinary communication between the artists themselves and other actors, but also addresses the interactions with the visitors.”
