Art in Situ was founded in France in 2000 by Betsy Tyler-Bell. The first residency included 12 Oxford artists and 12 French artists from the Drome Valley. European artists from other countries were increasingly included in workshops and residencies in subsequent years and a network of European artists thrived. The Association was dissolved in 2012 but Aquarium Compagnie, founded by Brigitte Kohl in 2011, took up the mantle and continues to keep the aims and the philosophy of an international network of artists alive.
