 Menno Hiele (Utrecht, 1988)
Natural Artist & Creative Designer
Menno Hiele, based in Zeist (middle of The Netherlands), creates art that confronts and connects. His work is a powerful ode to nature, but also a critical view of the role of humankind. As the world becomes increasingly hardened, Hiele searches for ways to give nature a voice in an environment dominated by technology.
In his series of “Stacking Trees”, he transforms the bark of felled trees into sculptures, as a tribute to the tree and an appreciation of its power and meaning.
At the same time, his series “Original Function” asks the question of what happens when natural materials, such as wood and plants, are allowed to function as living organisms again.
By using technology – sensors, water pumps and 3D-Print-inspired shapes – he brings materials to life and lets them interact with the audience. The interaction between man, machine and nature creates a field of tension that is as fascinating as it is uncomfortable.
Hiele's work stimulates and invites reflection: how do we live side by side with nature, and how can we restore that balance? It is an invitation to look further, to ask questions, and to establish new connections to the world around us.
