Dialogue in Munich: Contemporary Sacred Art
Join artist Susanne Wagner in exploring the liturgical redesign of the parochial church of Maria Schutz in Munich-Pasing
Susanne Wagner has a predilection for space. In the parochial church of Maria Schutz in Munich-Pasing, the altar she designed stands on a spacious oak plinth, comprising three undulating stone slabs as the stipes (base) and a flat slab as the mensa (altar top). Like the gently undulating ambo (lectern), the altar is cast from light-coloured, fine-grained cast stone. Clean lines and a contemporary material create a new sense of openness in the church and bring the altar closer to the congregation.
During a dialogue-based tour, we will speak with Susanne Wagner, the client, Father Alois Emslander and the administrative director of the Pasing parochial association, Johannes Stoeber.
The focus is on the spatial and artistic concept, the liturgical redesign of the Neo-Romanesque parish church, and the innovative manufacturing process of the artificial stone.
