Segnalati Project Madrid
Daniela MELZIG is presenting her Lightpainting on Glass Fermé, 2023.
From 3-6th May 2026 Daniela Melzig is showing her work at Art Gallery Espacio Jovellanos.Â
The Segnalati Project, curated by Salvatore Russo, is an exclusive international platform selecting 65 artists for exhibition in Madrid.
Daniela Melzig is an interdisciplinary artist from Germany working at the intersection of social sculpture and multimedia installation. As a light painter and filmmaker, she creates site-specific works that explore the transparent properties of glass and the role of movement in shaping artistic processes across space and time.
Her practice is rooted in figurative art and closely connected to sculpture. Through performance, she stages “living sculptures” in landscapes and urban spaces, where the human body becomes a temporary spatial form. Her light paintings on layered glass panels expand this approach: transparency, depth, and shadow transform two-dimensional images into three-dimensional experiences. Installed in natural or architectural contexts, her works often evolve into land art or site-specific installations.
The work “Fermé, the sky is closed” (2023), created with Raphael Wolf in Ivenack, combines performance, glass painting and three-dimensional art. It reflects an improvisational engagement with place and explores themes of loss and transition, referencing the death of a fellow artist. A recurring symbol in her work is a black umbrella with hand-sewn lace, representing positivity.
Presented outdoors, the work enters into dialogue with its environment, intensifying its spatial and sculptural presence. It was selected for exhibition in Madrid, where it also connects to Daniela’s research on the role of the church during the Franco regime.
