Haeguemgang Theme Museum and Yukyung Art Museum seeks the creative development of contemporary art in various genres such as painting, photography, digital art, sculpture, installation, and video with artists from around the world, and from a continuous network of cooperation through the exhibition of the International Art Festival.

With the theme of the 10th Geoje International Art Festival, "Language of coexistence, Art," we invite professional, emerging and well-established artists to open up new possibilities with a creative world of artworks.

• Application period: January 1st - June 30th, 2024
• Exhibition period: September 1st - October 25th, 2024
• Field of Recruitment: Visual art sector such as painting, sculpture, installation, photography, digital art, and video
• Size Limit: Minimum 50 x 70cm (based on paintings)

  • Winners will receive their award certificate, donation letter and participation certificate couriered to their country.
  • Best Artist: Invited to have a solo exhibition in 2025
  • All other participants will receive certificates of participation, letters of donation and digital catalogs

  • CV: We need a CV that includes exhibition history (year, exhibition title, exhibition location, country) and award-winning experience. Please organize your exhibition history and award-winning experience by year with latest first. (PDF or DOCX)
  • The artist's photo: A picture showing the artist's face (JPG)
  • The image of the work: A high-resolution image file is required (JPG)
  • Information about the work: Title, size, technique, year of the work
  • Artist Note: Please briefly describe your submitted Artwork (Explanation within 5 lines)
  • Artist must send a donation certificate with a photo stating that the work is original. (Available online)
• Notices
  • Please note that the submitted work will belong to the museum including copyright.
  • Artist cannot claim the return of their submitted work under any circumstances.
  • All works will be judged by the jury of the 10th Geoje International Art Festival to decide whether to submit or not.
  • Materials that do not have the required documents or are submitted in excess will be excluded from the evaluation.
  • Works arriving after the deadline will be excluded from the evaluation and cannot be returned.
  • The cost of transporting the artwork is borne by the artist.
  • When the work has passed the jury approval an email will be sent by the museum to the artist with clearance to send the work.

As its name suggests, the Haegeumgang Theme Museum is a museum that combines the name Haegeumgang with various themes. Since its opening in 2005, the museum's Theme has been widely covered with modern and contemporary living materials in Korea, European culture and history, maritime history, war history, and contemporary art. Currently, it is operated as a space where visitors can experience the past, present, history and art by selecting and focusing on the theme by dividing its characteristics into the exhibition hall of modern and contemporary Korean history and the Yugyeong Art Museum.

How did the Geoje International Art Festival begin? The exhibition, which began in 2015 with the International Environmental Communication Exhibition [The Meeting of the East and the West, Closer to Art 展], began with a collection of poems by Japanese poet Taro Aizu, who described his hometown after the Fukushima nuclear accident in March 2011. 105 artists inspired by the concept of "Collaboration between Literature and Art" based on "Environment" presented a fusion exhibition featuring more than 100 works expressed in various genres such as installation art, painting, and video.

Starting with this, an international exhibition is planned and carried out every year, and after the environmental planning exhibition, it is developing into an international exhibition with the theme of freedom and peace in conjunction with the purpose of establishing our museum. With the goal of enjoying culture and art for local people, it has expanded its meaning by combining it with art every year, and it will make art the theme more broadly under the theme of the language of coexistence in celebration of its 10th anniversary in 2024. Until 2022, the number of annual museum visitors was approximately 15,000 due to the coronavirus19 pandemic, but by 2023, the number of annual visitors is approximately 25,000, recovering to the pre-corona pandemic level.

Before the pandemic, annual visitor numbers were over 30,000. In 2023, there are cooperative organisations such as Yeosu Art Museum, Jeongeup Seojimal Scholarship Association, Art Town Gwangju, Geumboseong Art Center, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Gyeongsangnam-do, Jeongeup, Gwangju, International Museum Council, Korean Museum Association, Korean Private Museum Association, and International Federation of Culture and Arts. Yeosu City Museum of Art, Jeongeup City, Jeongeup Seojimal Scholarship Association, Jeongeup Life Culture Center, Geoje City, South Gyeongsang Province Government, Korea Museum Association, Korea Private Museum Association, and the International Federation of Culture and Arts all cooperate with Haegeumgang Theme Museum/Yukyung Art Museum. 

INTERNATIONAL ART FESTIVAL

Last year there were 350 artists from 52 countries participating in the Art Festival. The International Jury of 2024 consists of 21 judges from 20 countries worldwide. The Chairman of the Jury for 2024 is Heidi Fosli from Norway.
