Stone Symposium Tangen

In the Hedmark region of southern Norway, you will find the farm Asgard, which is
characterised by artistic work and symposia. Over many years, students and sculptors
have gained their first experience of working in stone and have been able to develop their
artistic work on this special location. Prof. Andreas Kienlin works here with students and
sculptors on stone. Pauline Berger, Clemens Junk and Eva Hermens were also sculpture
students and now work as freelance sculptors and have already realised several stone
projects on site.

All four share a deep passion for stone sculpting. Realising an artistic idea or a question
with a the ancient material is very special.
Patience and perseverance are just as important as respect and care for the natural
origin of the work.
Now, we would like to offer an international symposium for professional sculptors,
focussing on community, artistic exchange and concentration.

Facts
Fauske Marble

You will work on the Åsgård farm together with 7-10 other sculptors. Experience in stonework is required for this symposium. For the first symposium we have chosen to work with Norwegian Fauske marble. The marble will be ordered in advance and delivered to Åsgård. Approximately 1 tonne of marble will be provided for each participant.
The participants buy their block of marble (stone price incl. Transport ca. 550,00 €)
The resulting work is the property of the artist.
Return transport is organised by the participants themselves.
Tools / machines for the stone work must be brought by the participants. Compressed air is available to a limited extent.

The various buildings of the former Åsgård farm have been lovingly redesigned by the Kuppel-Kienlin family and now offer simple, very cosy rooms. There is a communal kitchen with dining room and sanitary facilities. The nearest village with shops is about 15 minutes away on foot, 5 minutes by car.
The beautiful and largest lake in Norway, Mjøsa, is also nearby.

13 May - 09 June 2024
These weeks are primarily intended for continuous work in stone and exchange with the
other participants. Smaller excursions to local sculptors in the region and a trip to a
quarry are also possible during this time and are planned and implemented jointly.

Exhibition

The final exhibition will open on 8 June at the Hamar Kunstverein and the resulting works will be exhibited outside throughout the summer.

The costs for Return journey (1 hour north of Oslo), accommodation and meals are borne by the participants themselves.

12 € per night Accommodation, simple rooms with shared house
