Galerie Dorothea van der Koelen
Dr. phil. Dorothea van der Koelen, art historian and publisher.
With my love of beauty, I want to bring contemporary art closer to a diverse audience. In doing so, I build bridges between artists and art lovers and choose highly individual concepts for each project partner. With this mission in mind, I have been advising museums and companies at home and abroad as well as private collectors for over 40 years.
As a passionate entrepreneur, it is my concern to always bring art, science and business together for mutual benefit with unusual ideas. To this end, I have built up the following business areas.

CONCEPT - ART EDUCATION TODAY
CADORO
In the heart of the Rhine-Main region, Mainz-Hechtsheim is home to an art building with international appeal that is unique in Germany. CADORO' is a centre for art and science, a privileged meeting place in the conurbation and attracts art lovers from near and far. The nearly 2,000 m2, three-part building complex contains the Dorothea van der Koelen Gallery, the Chorus Publishing House's book warehouse and the van der Koelen Foundation for Art and Science's collection holdings. The top floor is reserved for the Mainz artist Lore Bert.
Scientific research into art and the art market are intertwined, but often enough go their separate ways in isolation from each other. In an increasingly globalised world, the demands placed on art continue to rise, and art education - which is essentially supported by the art market outside of the museum context - has a crucial role to play. The Centre for Art and Science represents an innovative concept of symbiosis between theory and practice in the field of visual arts. Education is fused with training and increases the potential of students for their future professional life. Significant works of contemporary art find a home here. Artistic aesthetics are placed in a scientific dialogue and invite discourse at the highest level. Direct contact with the material, so-called 'field research', conveys a different perception of art and creativity. Entrepreneurs learn new ways from art.
The concept clearly differs from the conventional private museum: it is a holistic offer to encounter art on all levels. Value-oriented promotion of current trends in contemporary art can be experienced by a large audience, with special emphasis on the promotion of young artists. Synergies of theory and practice, science and business are the basic idea. The symbiosis of education and training is the programme.
Art as a purpose-free space increasingly functions as a representative of a global ethic. The centre as a meeting place for aesthetic communication and catalyst for a network of worldwide relations. Regional and supra-regional representatives from business, culture and society enter into dialogue here and meet to exchange experiences.
Cultural events of different types and sizes provide a platform for encounters and cooperation. The state capital Mainz benefits from this both ideally and economically.
Dorothea van der Koelen has been a passionate gallery owner and art mediator for over 40 years. Having grown up in an artistic family, she decided to devote her life and work to contemporary art even before studying art history, philosophy and books. In the meantime, she has two galleries in Mainz and Venice and has proven her curatorial skills in over 500 exhibitions in more than 25 countries on all continents and gathered a wealth of experience. She would like to pass this on to future generations.
With her artists, Dorothea van der Koelen conquered the public space and became the interface between the art market and academic research work. At the same time, she left no stone unturned in communicating art to the general public and realised numerous cooperations with museums and public exhibition institutes worldwide. She has published numerous essays on art in lectures, journals and books and has also made a name for herself as a publisher: she is a recognised editor of œuvre catalogues. As a juror, she is represented on several committees.
