Art room Riehen: space for art and discussions

The art space Riehen promotes contemporary art and shows regional as well as international artistic positions. It helps to find access to the different methods of fine arts, to seek conversation with artists and the public and to support a deeper understanding of current art production.

Mission statement

The Kunst Raum Riehen is the public exhibition location of the municipality of Riehen for art and culture and its program is aimed at a broad and interested audience. The audience usually has free admission.

Located in the immediate vicinity of the Fondation Beyeler, the Kunst Raum Riehen contributes to Riehen's charisma as a place of art and culture. The proximity to Basel and the trinational region of the Upper Rhine leave room for diverse synergies and connections. program

The art room Riehen maintains a diverse program in the broad spectrum of fine arts. The exhibitions deal in their own way with the oeuvre of one or more selected artists or with an artistic theme. In this open context, projects and interventions are also possible, who are looking for a tension between the current and the historical from the visual arts or the dialogue between the current and the historical. The program design is shaped by the search for quality in artistic expression. spaces

In the former economic building of the Berowergut, the Kunst Raum Riehen has exhibition rooms on three floors. These rooms challenge a precise handling of the spatial-architectural situation. The interiors and the unique courtyard situation at the Kunst Raum Riehen enable exhibitions that seek a connection between indoor and outdoor space. Interventions in the courtyard, but also in other places, are intended to promote awareness of art in public spaces.
Mediation activityA principle of work in the art room Riehen is to promote contact between the public and the artist in order to find a deeper understanding of unusual manifestations of the visual arts. Conversations, artistic events, lectures, guided tours and special activities in summer complement the exhibitions and promote dialogue between artists and the public. Particular emphasis is placed on a placement program for children and young people.
