Museo Chillida-Leku

Chillida Leku

Chillida Leku is a unique museum, made in itself as a great work of art. In it, the fusion between art and nature occurs naturally. The sculptures are integrated into the landscape as if they had always been part of it. In the garden, beech, oak, and magnolia trees coexist with monumental steel and granite sculptures located in perfect dialogue with the environment. Although the works present an aspect of monumentality, the place was built on a human scale, the scale the artist always used, putting people as the measure of his work.

Chillida Leku's mission is to universalize the work and thought of Eduardo Chillida. Therefore, its objectives include collecting, cataloging, and preserving all documentation and activities related to the artist, as well as contributing to the research and study of Chillida's work by facilitating access to said information. For this reason, the museum houses both the archive that contains Eduardo Chillida's documentary legacy and a specialized library.

The Chillida Leku Education Department brings visitors closer to the work of Eduardo Chillida and to the museum program. Staying true to the artist’s philosophy that “art isn't taught”, the museum's tours and activities offer a direct experience of Chillida's artworks based on observation, experimentation, reflection and action
