MUTATIS MUTANDIS — Textile Sculpture and Video Installation
The central installation of MUTATIS MUTANDIS combines a monumental translucent textile sculpture with moving-image projection. The textile carries an enlarged image of a wound found in the bark of an oak tree, transforming it into a permeable skin activated by air, light, and the movement of visitors.
Projected onto and through the fabric, the video brings together body, landscape, rock, drawing, sound, and time. Rather than documenting the sculpture, it acts as a second material presence. Together, textile and projection create a changing spatial field in which landscape is experienced as a vulnerable and resilient living body.
“MUTATIS MUTANDIS” is a site-specific installation exploring the wound as a possibility for transformation. Created for two intimate rooms at the Museu de la Mediterrà nia, the work establishes a dialogue between the body and the landscape, understood as vulnerable forms of matter exposed to change.
At the centre of the installation is an eight-metre-long translucent fabric suspended in space. Bearing the enlarged image of a wound found in the bark of an oak tree near MontgrĂ, it behaves like a delicate, vibrating skin, activated by the air from mechanical fans. Visitors are invited to move through, touch and experience the work with their own bodies.
Combined with drawings, watercolours and an audiovisual piece, the installation reflects on the wounds caused by the exploitation of the territory, urban development and contemporary ways of living. It invites us to perceive the landscape as a living body and to imagine how what has become normalised might be transformed and healed.
