Dialogue in Barcelona: Visit to the studio-workshop of the artist Antoni Yranzo
Step inside the creative world of sculptor Antoni Yranzo and experience a place where Barcelona's industrial heritage meets contemporary sculpture.
Our next Sculpture Network Dialogue takes us to the artist's unique studio-workshop in Poblenou, a neighborhood that became Catalonia's industrial heart at the end of the 19th century. Housed in a former industrial carpentry workshop dating back to 1943, the space has been part of Yranzo's family history for generations. In the early 1990s, he transformed the former manufacturing workshop into the creative studio where he continues to develop his artistic practice today.
Working primarily with reclaimed wood, alongside materials such as iron, wire, hemp twine, and untreated stone, Yranzo creates sculptures that celebrate balance, simplicity, and the beauty of imperfection. Guided by the belief that both people and materials deserve a second life, his works reveal the expressive potential of natural and recycled elements through refined craftsmanship and a deep respect for their history.
His sculptures explore the relationship between movement and stillness, weight and equilibrium. Among his best-known bodies of work are the balancing sculptures, in which recycled wood, found stones, and natural fibers create delicate yet stable compositions, and the Otokos series—expressive figures whose diverse personalities and gestures reflect everyday human experiences.
Throughout his career, Antoni Yranzo has worked across the fields of sculpture, interior design, gastronomy, design, and cultural projects. During our visit, he will share insights into his artistic journey, his creative process, and the story behind Petjades, his intervention in Barcelona's historic Passatge de les Manufactures.
