Two Athletes by Jerzy Kędziora join the collection of Polish Olympic Committee
The Polish Olympic Committee has enriched its art collection with two works by Jerzy “Jotka” Kędziora – the sculptures "Too High Bar" and "The Last Hurdle". The purchase of the artworks was co-financed as part of the program Sculpture in Public Space for the Independent, carried out by the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko.
At the headquarters of the Polish Olympic Committee, a number of balancing sculptures from the Athletes - Sportsmen series are presented: Too High Bar, The Last Hurdle, Deep Plunge. All the sculptures were co-financed as part of the program Sculpture in Public Space for the Independent, carried out by the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko - Deep Plunge in 2023 and Too High Bar and The Last Hurdle now in 2025.
The Athletes is a series of balancers, which has been implemented since 2018 in a new, dynamic modeling expression with elongated body proportions. The artist wants to refer to the champions of the ancient Olympiads, the classic heroes, using current sports disciplines. Ultimately, get closer to the anatomy of failure. Too high a bar.
These works serve as an artistic complement to the space of the Olympic Centre, where one sculpture from this series – Deep Plunge – had already been installed earlier. Together, the pieces form a coherent formal and conceptual whole, referring to universal values such as perseverance, ambition, and the pursuit of excellence – both in sport and in life. The sculptures are exhibited in the foyer of the Olympic Centre in Warsaw.
It is worth noting that these sculptures were previously loaned and showcased at the Polish House, organized by the Polish Olympic Committee at the Pavillon Royal during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Their presentation there not only highlighted the excellence of contemporary Polish sculpture but also symbolically connected the values of art and sport — creativity, balance, and the pursuit of mastery.
