Marvin Liberman: IMPERFECT... an uncertain path

This exhibition of abstract works by Marvin Liberman is the first to be shown in Madrid. His work encompasses forms and methods that have as their central focus imperfection and the nature of tragedy.  Despite their non-figurative makeup, the works emanate a sense of an interior life within. They are intimate, irregular and often moving.

His sculptures mounted on panels are made with gauze fabric (tarlatan), on which colour is applied. Others make use of tree branches integrated with forms from the same gauze in free standing works. The materials are simple, the images enigmatic, disquieting and subtly illuminated. In his drawings, the paths diverge. With pencil and graphite, at times colour, they explore a precarious balance that reflects the ephemeral equilibrium of relationships we sustain between us. They are images that neither tell a story nor describe anything; instead they explore an abstract language and subconscious roots.
