The pink inside

This sculpture reflects on the empty womb as a place of presence and absence. It speaks of motherhood and non-motherhood, of having, longing for, or losing a child.

This sculpture reflects on the womb as a place of presence and absence, of motherhood and non-motherhood, of having, longing for, or losing a child. The curled female body appears withdrawn into itself, as if trying to become small. Depending on how the sculpture is placed, the belly can either be revealed or concealed, shifting the work between exposure and protection.

The empty womb becomes both a physical and emotional space: a symbolic centre where feeling, memory, loss, and possibility gather. Through this ambiguity, the work speaks about the complex relation between womanhood, the body, and inner experience.
