Weathered Steel

In 2024, SSG submitted Bridge as a proposal for the Rebirth exhibition at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics Museum in Chengdu, China. The work received a prize for excellence from an international jury, which led to its commission and subsequent installation.

Inspired by Yemen’s Shaharah Bridge—also known as the Hourglass Bridge—Bridge reflects the precarious balance of the original structure as it clings to the mountains. Its wing-like steps echo this connection, suggesting both fragility and resilience.

Constructed in weathered steel, Bridge embodies transformation, symbolising a passage across time, place, and history. Its dynamic form speaks to the ongoing evolution of cities and cultures, creating a powerful metaphor for crossing thresholds both physical and metaphorical. Today, Bridge is part of the SWUFE Museum’s permanent collection.
