Hobbes Lane Tube

Third in the series of cabinets with triptychs. Along with the cabinets in Tin Gods, this will form part of an installation based on fragments of stories from history, mythology, and science fiction.

Hobbes Lane Tube Station is the site where a crashed Martian space ship is discovered in Quatermass and the Pit, initially broadcast as a television serial in the 1950's, then made into a film in the 1960's.  What is fascinating about the narrative is the connection of the long-dead Martians and the occult (a hob being a name for a demon or malign spirit).  The work begins with this scenario, and then brings in references to the manner in which mistaken interpretation of images of Mars led to the ideas of Martian canals and collapsing civilisations.  This sculpture will form part of a larger planned series of cabinets, hand-made books, and films exploring these ideas.  Keep watching the skies.
