The Levochevo Pine Shrine

A tribute to the pine tree which is an important source of income in the region of the Rodope mountains in Bulgaria.

The installation is formed by ready-mades just as benches, posed on a stable wooden table. The top and ‘crown’ forms a sleigh which symbolizes the horns of a mouflon ram in an abstracted way. The mouflon is also an animal which is typical for the Rhodope mountains, and became a natural component for the ecosystem, helping to reduce certain plant populations.

As the wood industry is a crucial branch of the region, and the pine is one of the important trees for construction, doors, windows, and furniture, the idea of the ‘Levochevo Pine Shrine’ was born – to pay tribute to the pine tree which among other types of wood like firs, spruces, beeches as a source of income that helps the region to survive.

Everybody coming to visit the shrine was invited to add some little object (from home, streets, or nature) to the shrine.
