What does a transmedia, hybrid existence do to us? What happens to someone who exists both digitally and physically? How do the different forms of existence relate to each other and how do they influence each other? Questions that are reflected in the creation of the sculpture. Digital, technical and manual processes alternate and relate to each other.
Creation Process:
- 3D scan of an object or person.
Depending on how it is handled, errors are introduced that are "cultivated."
- Processing the file on a computer with 3D software (Blender) and preparing it for printing.
- 3D printing in clay.
- Process the still-soft print by hand.
- Firing the sculpture.
- Glaze and second firing.
Throughout this process, digital, mechanical, and manual shaping methods are used in conjunction with each other.
I coarsely adjusted the resolution of the scan to make the triangular surfaces charactaristic of digital bodies visible. I subtly edited the surface to emphasize the geometry and strukture. In particular, the back of the head was modeled by hand to highlight the form's dissolution.
