The keys of a piano destined for demolition - black and white - were suddenly there. I received them from a friend who knows and likes my work. I thought about it for a long time and then, as always, inspiration struck one night. It was clear to me that a tribute to Paul Wittgenstein would fit perfectly into my series of ‘Tribute to’, after Faraday, Hedy Lamarr, John Cage, Ada Lovelace and others. In this mobile I express my admiration for Paul Wittgenstein, this exceptional pianist who lost his right arm in the First World War. He worked intensively, arranging pieces for the left hand himself and studying new works composed for him. He enjoyed worldwide fame.
