Tin God

A triptych, with the centre being a cabinet within which is a forced perspective model space.

A triptych, with the centre being a cabinet within which is a forced perspective model space. This space is a depiction of a ruined factory, behind which is an abandoned library. Blocking the view into the space is a machine, based in part on a heavy weapons carrier of the early 20th century. The wings of the triptych have four paintings of overgrown glass containers, which have the appearance of miniature worlds where nature holds sway. The overall appearance of the cabinet is based on museum cabinets, or similar display enclosures of the early 20th century. The cabinet is placed on an open wooden frame of 100cm height (not seen in the images). The work alludes to the obsession with weapons that is once again overwhelming the world, to the ruination of the world by capitalist greed (the factory), to the dismissal of knowledge (the ruined library). However, the work is open to interpretation, it sits in a 'context explosion' to use Timothy Morton's apposite phrase.
