axiom meets fluid

Sculpture, Installation, Dance
A geometric principle meets a moving swarm.

"The term fluid is always used to describe substances that [...] continuously deform, i.e. they flow." The fluid forms in Eva Hermen's "touch" series of works also capture a movement. Like a snapshot of a fluid system that continues to move, they seem to glide through space. They interact with each other and seem to follow a certain "principle" as they float in space. "Axiom denotes [...] an immediately obvious principle or a reference to such a principle. A law of nature that can be postulated as a principle for empirically confirmed rules." Matthias Demmer works specifically with geometric shapes and their diverse arrangement. His "tapatoru" series of works follows a specific basic formal pattern. These patterns oscillate like a rhythm in three-dimensional space as he discovers new connections and relationships in his world of forms. What is special about this exhibition is how the different positions negotiate fundamental phenomena of sculpture and bring them into conversation. Matthias' works define the space based on a rhythmic principle of repetition, from rigor to dissolution. Eva's works function almost in reverse: from a fluid, soft movement, a concretization into a specific form takes place.

The idea of exploring the interaction between space, sculptures and dancers in the exhibition 'axiom meets fluid' also developed. Experiencing space is movement with all the senses. To allow the dimension of time and movement to flow into the installation. During the vernissage, the Duo 'Flies and tales' danced an improvised dance performance. What happens when the installation is filled with dance and music? The structure and dynamics of the objects provide the impetus for new movement sequences and performance ideas. The dancers' choreography places the sculptures in new contexts. A new level of visual worlds develops for viewers and performers. With this experience, 'axiom meets fluid' will have new inspiring encounters with creative and interested people.
