The symbolic considerations involving the representation of the human form in a deteriorated or decaying condition could easily be seen to illustrate the perceived decline in our society and a deterioration of our social and political situations.
In many areas of society, we are experiencing heightened awareness of social disparity, fracture and discord as philosophical, religious and theological differences have become increasingly apparent. Society has always been fragmented between cultural, economic and racial differences and as our world becomes smaller these differences can become more evident.
This body of work is a reaction against war; it confronts the glorification of the act of destruction and provides a visual reference to the devastating nature of armed conflict. Yet as the Fragments found a voice, the work followed my desire to effect social change, and became art that makes a difference. Through these sculptures, I speak of our human condition and call upon the audience to respond to this tragedy.
The symbolism involves representing the human form in decay, illustrating the effect war has on our societies and the self-destructive nature of the human psyche.
