Contemporary art often involves the viewer as an active participant, involved in deciding the meaning of a work of art and conceptualising the social activity activated by the art.

The purpose (social activism) behind the aesthetic object is the intent, the political struggle, taking place in the cultural sphere. Art has a place within the organised struggle by allowing artists who actively wanted to participate in making social decisions a voice.

“There is a fine balance in these figures, they are injured and physically degraded yet I hope to communicate so much more with them. In these pieces the parts that are missing are as important as what you see, they are beauty & destruction embodied. This collection of sculpture is no longer like art that is placed before us to be viewed and contemplated; it serves. as a call to action.”

One of the first exhibitions of Fragments took place in in the Cathedral at Canterbury in 2007 as a part of the Canterbury Festival. Shown in association with organisations that aids in landmine removal and survivor support, this body of work continues to contributed to this cause today.
