Ans van den Hurk

Ans her work stems from a strong connection with nature, materials, and process. She studied at the St. Joost Academy of Fine Arts in Breda/Den Bosch and also completed the Upgraders in Art program in Arnhem. These programs formed the foundation for a unique practice that centers on experimentation, repetition, and intuition.
In her work, Van den Hurk explores the expressive power of materials from her immediate surroundings, such as Maas Clay, branches, organic elements, and residual materials. By kneading, stacking, repeating, and repositioning, sculptures and installations emerge with a crafted roughness and poetic tension. The creative process is paramount: surprise, chance, and material properties help determine the final form.
