Paul Funcken
Lives and works in Udenhout NL a village close to Tilburg. I am a sculptor and work with stone, glass and bronze.
A modern city, an old city,
an outer planetary rock formation,
an antediluvian construction?
The associations are numerous when looking at the sculptures of Paul Funcken. Impressive combinations of semi-transparent semi-polished glass and roughly worked bronze, metal or stone, open and closed at the same time, allow thoughts to travel to other times, spaces and ideas.
Glass is a special material; it is heavy and light at the same time. Funcken combines these two qualities in his unpolished works that stand like a house and inspire awe by their massiveness.
Glass is an unruly material that hits back hard, perhaps that is my challenge of continuing to
master it.
