Reflections and interdependencies by Egidius Knops

The exhibition ‘ÜBERSICHTEN’ shows paintings by Egidius Knops from the last 20 years (2005 - 2025).

It begins with works from the Flowerfields series (2005/06), inspired by the photographs of Karl Blossfeldt (sculptor/photographer 1865-1932).
The ‘Forest Walks’ cycle (2017) is an attempt to capture the moods, colours and light of the forest. They are Impressionist-influenced landscape paintings inspired above all by Manet and Monet, who loved light.
The ‘Painters’ series (2020) can be seen in the Black Box, 11 paintings with associations to 12 painters - painted during the coronavirus pandemic.
The paintings in the series ‘Zeitsprünge’ (2022/23) not only originate from impressions of nature experienced by the artist, they are also inspired by paintings from the Renaissance to Romanticism. The visual and emotional experiences create a kind of flashback. Reality and fiction overlap. Landscapes that never existed are created.
The more recent pictures from the ‘Blowup’ series attempt to capture the crossroads the world is currently facing. Old familiar landscapes disappear and are soon only to be seen as beautiful landscape paintings in museums.
