Sculpture Network is delighted to present the emerging sculptors Mette Sterre and Menno Hiele, who enrich the language of sculpture with visceral performances and dynamic installations.
Mette Sterre (b. 1983, Delft; lives in Amsterdam, NL) explores what it means to be human in an age where bodies merge with technology. Using materials like ceramics and rubber, along with robotics and prostheses, she transforms the body through sculptural masks and performances that challenge our understanding of identity. Sterre studied at Central Saint Martins, London, and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, exhibiting internationally, including at Manifesta Biennale and the Prague Quadriennale.
Menno Hiele (b. 1988, Utrecht; lives in Zeist, NL) gives nature a voice through his sculptures, combining wood, living plants, and water systems to evoke the hidden vitality of trees. Formerly an arborist, he honors trees by reconstructing their bark using CNC milling. A graduate of HKU Utrecht, Hiele has exhibited in the Netherlands and Japan and completed notable commissions.
