Viel Bjerkeset Andersen

Viel Bjerkeset Andersen is a Norwegian visual artist and sculptor mainly working with site specific art projects. Her art works can be close to both architecture, landscape architecture and landart, but also as sculpture and objects. Her art projects relate to the site’s history and situation, often influenced by the presence of the sun and the site’s specific light and acoustics. She is not afraid of proposing large scale art projects, but also smaller more subtle objects get her fully attention, always with a focus on the human size, movement and experience connected to its environments.
Dag Wiersholm, previous Senior Advicer at KORO/ Public Art Norway, writes in a statement: “... Viel Bjerkeset Andersen, as an artist and an art consultant, is an important contributor in the field of public art. Over the years she has been involved in several projects within this art form, and they have all been of a high artistic nature. Due to innovation and her ability to bring projects to fruition, they are both interesting and relevant. She has been ground breaking in the field of art in infrastructure in Norway, and her art projects in other public contexts have also been developed in pioneering and exiting ways.
Viel Bjerkeset Andersen has a high credibility by virtue of her wide knowledge, which she communicates in a clear and comprehensible manner. She is in every way a reliable collaborator, and her projects are completed on time and within budget, whether as an artist or as an art consultant. She always takes on the responsibility for her own works and for the context. ...”
Viel Bjerkeset Andersen has her education from SHKS and SKA, now both part of Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She has also been an artist in recidence at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, at a one- year French Government’s scolarship. She has been giving several talks in different fora the last twenty years, and is also working as an art consultant.
Viel Bjerkeset Andersen lives and works in Oslo.
