MODULES II

The cuboid-like shape is a modified Platonic volume. It becomes a module in an architectural structure or a setting that can be hidden or visible. Inspired by the traces of old buildings one might find in an ancient place, the installation calls to mind how these crumbling individual components now only serve as silent witnesses. However, at one time may have been the key element of a wall, or ceiling, etc. Regardless of their prior functionality, the aesthetic potential overrides the previous story.

Toma Gabor

Creative statement Toma’s practice and studio explorations are focused on three-dimensional site-specific sculpture, installation, painting, and drawing. He uses both conventional and unconventional materials, and through modeling or combining them, he strives to either enhance or diminish their characteristics. This approach allows him to suggest ideas in abstract shapes. The works on display suggest changing shapes; they vary from compact, geometrical, or rough organic volumes, to thin, aerated traces in space. His works has explored many themes, such as consumerism and human behavior. Shoppers I-II-III, The Network, The Temporary Monument of the Passerby, and Mass-produced, were all designed to attract the passerby’s instant involvement and response. In his new works, the cuboid-like shape is a modified Platonic volume, becomes a module in an architectural structure or a setting that can be hidden or visible. The public artworks proposed either in the gallery set up or outdoor are for temporary or permanent display, mainly experimental interaction with the passersby and spaces, which are meant to personalize the space and interact with the viewer.

Laukiasi/Waiting
Pregnant/Waiting/Laukiasi Unfired Clay/Soil/Barbed wire My work is inspired by Siluva and its dedication to the Mother of god, Mary. All images of Mary portray her as a mother holding a child yet she is also referred to as the Virgin Mary. The female body undergoes significant changes in order to contain and deliver a child. There are 7 clay forms, embedded in soil and linked by barbed wire. The clay form represents the burgeoning womb; the soil represents the mortality of the humans and the barbed wire alludes to the sorrows of the Mother. From a distance, the installation would appear like a rosary with 7 beads. She is Waiting/Ji laukiasi This performace alludes to the first signs of water breaking to make way for the birth of a new life into this world. The female body contains and nurtures the child within at great cost to herself. She is compromised before, during and forever after by the experience of birthing. The wet footprints on the ground are visible fleetingly to remind the viewer, we all are pilgrims in this world.

the ocean begins under your feet. 2021 - Venedig
Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy 2020/21 – TIME SPACE EXISTENCE European Cultural Centre, (ECC) Venice, Italy / this project is sponsored by the Ministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Kultur in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany + Palmyra Sculpture Centre, Amsterdam, Netherlands + Aláro, Islas Baleares, Spain Palazzo Mora, Venice, Exhibition from May 22nd – Novembre 21st.202 TIME SPACE EXISTENCE https://ecc-italy.eu/files/2021%20Cat%20Arch%2050mb.pdf the projects trailer/ film by Gudrun Brigitta Nöh 2021 https://vimeo.com/533590454 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2g_megKJQo The theme of the Architecture Biennale: How do we want to live? The theme of the European Cultural Centre: TIME SPACE EXISTENCE. Quite quickly it became clear to me that I was devoting my attention to water, more precisely to the oceans. The reason is simple: we humans are also water beings. Accordingly, my project reflects the current situation of climate change. It is a call for more mindfulness and respect towards nature, especially water, the life-sustaining and life-giving element. Climate change does not differentiate people by skin color, religion or ethnicity, rich or poor. Climate change forces humanity to work together and requires contributions from everyone to make life in this world more livable. That’s what my project is all about: “the ocean starts under your feet”, pay attention to where and how you go. What shall we eat tonight?
People concern the natural catastrophe, when they see them on a television. However, their concern will be declined as the news ends and then it will be replaced with their daily life. “OK, now switch off the television, everyone! Time for a dinner! What shall we eat tonight?” “hmm..What shall I wear for the party tomorrow?” People feel our planet became warmer. However climate change progress little by little and people has an ability to adopt them into new temperature. But when they aware of the impact not on television but in front of them, it will be too late and adopting into new temperature is not endless. It is not necessary to threat people every day by showing problems, but it is also meaningful time to time to bring the issues to concern.

Piedras
Angel.

Summer
The "Summer" is a circular composition, with sculptural figures of a walking man and woman at the bottom and upper points of the inner and outer circles of its infinite outline. The sculpture is about the eternal story of a relationship - the decisive step of both, which must unite, or finally divide them...
