Frederic Amat is a plastic artist and set designer who works in all areas of art: as an illustrator, sculptor, painter, stage director, muralist. His latest sculpture in Barcelona, Solc (2014), is a tribute to the Catalan poet Salvador Espriu. In his works in architectural spaces he has developed projects that combine painting, sculpture and ceramics: El Mural de les Olles, Pluja de Sang or Mur d'Ulls. He has been awarded with the City of Barcelona award of Fine Arts (2002), and with the National prize of Culture of Arts (2007).

A Wunderkammer, “cabinet of curiosities” or “room of wonders”, was an invention of the Renaissance to condense the world into a room – a prototype of later museums, so to speak. Frederic Amat takes up this old idea and presents a vision of his work that ties in nicely with the gallery’s background: a visual game that connects his works with those of the past.

“Frederic Amat proposes giving a new life to the bookshelf of an old textile warehouse in Barcelona, a breath of mise en scène or scenography”, says the gallery.

Amat put together a collection of collections that goes beyond space and time. The fourth generation antiquarians of Artur Ramon Art focus on exhibitions that create a dialogue between the old (antiques) and the contemporary. Artur Ramon Art is therefore a very well-fitting location for Amat’s Wunderkammer.

For those of you who missed our Dialogue: You don’t have to miss out on the exhibition! It is still on display until 18th of January 2019.
